It is a pleasure to exhibit the art of all the artists who presently and previously have worked at FiveMyles. Installations, design, admin work and keeping the gallery open on weekends are among the many tasks required to create a welcoming, interesting and effective environment in which to present art to the public. At FiveMyles the artists’ jobs, apart from running the organization, extend to being a homework helper for local kids and helping neighbors with complicated tech problems.

There are eleven artists in this exhibition. Ruby Lindsey, George Simonds and Hanne Tierney presently work at FiveMyles, Michael Britto died several years ago, Marine Cornuet became a literary translator and moved on, Allyson Spellacy, Carl E. Hazelwood and Nicholas Constantakis serve on the FiveMyles board of directors and have kept it on a straight path, Shawn Lane has moved to Baltimore with his young family, Jay Moses uses the space at night as his studio, and Joana O Leary helps with installation work when George is overloaded.

It is quite wonderful to see the diverse approach to art making in these eleven artists, who share and have shared in the success of FiveMyles as a relatively long-standing exhibition and performance space in Crown Heights. With this exhibition we give the public a peek behind the curtain, into our own creative lives.
